Fly Fishing Shows....

Postby Ken@theSpot » February 22nd, 2010, 12:13 pm

Hi folks, we are heading north on Thursday for the Fly Fishing Show in Pleasanton, CA. Hope to see some of you Nor Cal folks at the show. In addition we will be at the Pasadena Fly Fishing Show March 13 & 14, 2010 at the Pasadena Center in downtown Pasadena. If you are a beginner wanting to learn fly fishing or an advanced fly fisher, there is a long list of talks and demonstrations waiting for you. Add some great casting demos and fly tying to the mix and you’ll be overwhelmed with all the new knowledge.
The “Destination Theater” offers over 25 programs each day from native trout to rod bending sailfish, and all the best spots to fish for them. The lodge owners and professional guides will share all the techniques needed for success in a variety of exotic locations.
Visit some of the conservation club booths that work hard to protect our waters. If you aren’t a member it’s a good idea to expand their numbers by joining. The Federation of Fly Fishers Southwest Council will have a booth staffed by local enthusiasts who are happy to share their collective knowledge with everyone. Check it out!
Longtime Hardy reel historian John Shaner will perform free lubrication and maintenance service on the British-made products at both shows.
Shaner will clean and lubricate Hardy reels from a workbench in the manufacturer’s booth. Additionally, everyone who brings a reel in for service and evaluation will receive a free bottle of Hardy lubricant.
About 80 commercial exhibitors – ranging from tackle manufacturers and dealers to clothing to lodges and fly-fishing camps from around the world – will line the exhibition hall.
There are two casting ponds for demonstrations. Instructors include Jason Borger, Ed Engle and Mac Brown. Featured fly tiers include Steve Abel, Bill Blackstone, Ben Furimsky, Engle and Borger.
Door prizes include trips for two to Pesca Maya, in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula; 4-Rivers Fishing Company, Mont.; Picacho Lodge, Chilean Patagonia; and Restigouche River Lodge, New Brunswick, Canada; fishing tackle, and a Nor-Vise Automatic Bobbin System.
