Kids Academy III Saturday May 15th, 2010 10AM

The funnest SSFFC event of the year!

The date may be changed to Sat June 6th if there is too much snow and we can’t get to the location. I will scout it two weeks in advance and let everyone know.

A BIG thank you to everyone who participated in the Southern Sierra Fly Fishers Poker Night Fundraiser back in July for this event! It would not be possible without your donations. The kids won’t be disappointed.

Limit is twelve youngsters and they must be between 10-17 years old. They will learn knot tying, basic fly tying, casting, entomology (bugs), and conservation. To have your child participate, you need to be a member of the SSFFC based out of Kernville, CA . Annual family membership is only $35 and the Academy is one on many benefits of joining. You can download application by clicking this link http://www.ssffc.com/members.html and mail in membership form and the waiver.

Conservation will include proper C&R techniques, the history of our State fish the California GoldenTrout, Leave No Trace, where to find the regulations, and basic stream etiquette.

At the tying station they will learn how to tie a Woolly Bugger, Griffiths Gnat, and as a bonus catch lots of fish with their own fly!

After a late lunch, we will hit the afternoon caddis hatch and fish for Golden Trout until dark. It’s a one day event but everyone is encouraged to camp and Sunday will be free to explore and fish!
All adults will be blindfolded and must sign an oath not to divulge any info on where we are going! We’ll be 1.25 hours North of Kernville in a safe place.

Since this Academy is remote, most of the parents will be there and hopefully will be able to help but we would like to know in advance so we can plan each station. Don’t worry it is roadside camping, basic teaching, and we’ll be near a campground.

This is a laid back and fun event that has the reward of watching kids catch lots of fish and crack huge tons of smiles.
Please sign up and volunteer if you can.
