You can build one for around $60 - $100. Also Cabelas has a very nice 3wt 10' nymph rod. And I think it's in 11' too, and also in 4wt. I have the 4wt 10' and it casts really well. That rod is around 200 I believe but is often on sale for 120-130.

There are also inexpensive, very lightweight plastic reels on Amazon and Ebay that I've used that easily hold up to dozens/hundreds of Sierra-sized troots.

I think a 10 foot would be a little long for backpacking and small streams, right?

Well...yes and no. Depends.

If you're bushwhacking on a tiny stream that's overrun with brambles and scrub trees, then maybe yes.

If you are at a lake or in a meadow (Owens River, almost any Sierra lake, etc), then maybe no.

You said "3 wt and as long as you can;" well, you can get 3 wts up to 11', maybe longer.

I have a very nice 2 wt 7'-6" rod from Redington that's scored dozens of little trout from leetle streams in the Sierras. I think it was $79. Pretty sure they have 3wts too.

Hi Joe, I think it was the Classic Trout rod (CT).

I think I got it through one of the big discounters like Sierra Trading Post.

I know it's pricey and short but it's is a nice glass rod.

I have a multi piece rod, 6 or 7 pcs. from Orvis. It's a 6wt which is heavier than you are looking for but, on the few trips that I have brought it on, I have really enjoyed it. Great for lake fishing in the Sierra. Now for stream fishing, I go with a tenkara rod of 13' length, a 13' tenkara line and about 4-6' of tippet. Easily useful for up to 25' feet or so.

Google around the net for a bit and I'm sure you can find a 3 or 4 wt rod with 4 or more sections to it.
