Ok folks, I'll let you in on a little secret as long as you keep it on the DL.

When fishing flies make sure they have hooks on them.

Good tip! Did that last week. Went from catching fish to feeling tugs but never a fish. Only took me 20 casts to check it and see I had broken off the tip completely on the last tree snag.

Yeah, good tip. Been there. Done that. I do tend to check my flies more often since.
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

I know of a secret place in Bishop that the proprietor will occasionally allow his grand kids to toss hookless flies at his 28" pets....

The way things are evolving, we may all be required to use hookless flies.

Teejay...SHHHHSSS keep it quiet!! LOL otherwise PETA will require this and not only that, but the darn hooks will be more expensive for those of us that tie our own flies!!!

I think we are all guilty of this at some time or another.
It happened to me last week. I was catching them pretty good and then I lost 2 fish in a row.
It finally occured to me to check the hook and sure enough mine was snapped off at the upper portion of the bend much like yours, but the rest of the fly was still perfect.

I had the same thing 2 weeks ago on Kern. I was trying to figure out why I was missing strikes. I try to check my fly more often now.
