Just got my custom made 920g fly line for 90' deep

I just got my 920 g sinking line now I can go after those big calicos @ Catalina and San Clemente plus other spices of fish that live deep

Interesting that something like that is possible now. What do you use to throw that? Does it cast like a sinking line or more like leadcore? How long would it take to get down 90 feet, sinkrate?

10w reel ,10w 9'rod i cast it @ the park it's not that bad ...sinkrate not sure the guy said 25 seconds , ihave to start getting my own data i will do a test run next week cant wait...

Curious. Is that 920 g the weight of the entire line, or just the head portion? Sounds interesting.

I can't even imagine a line of that weight. The heaviest rod I've fished, cast or owned is a 7wt. Hmm, I might have cast an 8wt once or twice, not sure. Still, picturing a 920g fly line on my 7wt prompts mental images of the sudden and catastrophic creation of an unintended hinge somewhere along the 9ft length of my TFO TiCR 7wt.

Pushing the limits, that's for sure. But that's one of the fun parts of this sport. Some of the stuff we consider normal now was unheard of a decade ago.

Some of you old timers must remember when surf fly casting "seemed crazy."

I borrowed Bill Calhoun's 850 gr and Xi3 10 wt for an outing at MVL earlier this year. It was not fun. I guess I should have tried it out at the casting club before rocking it out on the water. It does help to elevate yourself on a boat bench and rock your body kinda like when using a long beach leader system.

Good luck with your new rig hopefully we'll be seeing some pigs on this site soon.

I was very curious about these super heavy lines, so I did some Google research. It didn't take much to find out what I wanted to know. Kudos to the guys/Calico Syndicate, who are figuring out how to get to the better quality fish. Fly fishing DEEP isn't something new, but I don't think many guys are doing it all the time like they are. Very cool stuff!

I have some experience casting what I thought was heavy heads. Mine are light compared to this stuff. I was very skeptical that a 10wt could cast 800+ grains, but it's right there in the videos. Must say, when I saw the videos of of them false casting those lines, I literally cringed. I know what it feels like to get zapped when casting tungsten impregnated lines.

Last year at Diamond Valley Lake I was fishing at 35ft. hooked into a 5.5 stripe bass what a fun pull that was.That was the deepest I've fished a fly line. Good Luck going Deep.......Fred
