This is an interesting article about the reintroduction of the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout that once roamed this water.

That was an amazing article. Can you imagine discovering those original strain fish?

I was standing next to Rob on a ladder when he was guiding the Angler from Truckee and his daughter and talking to the reporter and photoghrapher from the "B" It was very interesting. I also heard from that conversation That the creek in the Pilot Mtns that had the trout was washed out in a flash flood last summer killing most if not all of the fish in the creek. BobK

Yeap that was what I was trying to say last time the matter of the Lahontans came up on this forum.
With this the original strain of Lahontan Cutthroats back in Pyramid Lake the possiblity of 40+lb Cutts is a real possiblity. The next thing that everyone needs to ask for is to increase the releases in the Truckee River for more natural spawning run. You might even try to consider the removal of the dam on the Truckee to open up the entire historical spawning run for the Cutts. This could be done as the dam comes up for recertification like they have done on some of the historical Salmon Rivers of the northwest. It would take organization and a concerted effort by 1000s of anglers demanding it's removal. Nature has a great ability to fill good habitat with a suitable organism.

Awesome article, it's nice to know, and read the history of these success stories! I know there are several programs around the state involved in rehabilitating local original trout strains and I hope at least 50% of them have a future success story like this one.

That's a great article! It's a cool lake to fish, especially when you see giant fish cruising by. No less then 3x!

Mark

That was a good read.
Was talking to Bob K last week and I think for next year we will have to go in March.
