Friend's Trip Planning

Postby tomsakai » June 5th, 2013, 12:21 pm

A friend of mine (actually my Doctor) is planning a trip to Colorado (Boulder area) with his wife to deliver a car to his daughter. Any suggestions as to finishing along the way? He was thinking Green River in Utah as one stop but is looking for other suggestions both in Utah and in Colorado. Thanks.

Tons of innuendo in that statement there, Tom... ;woohoo:

As to the fishing, the Sevier when you pick up the I-70 in Utah is pretty nice.

The owner of this shop gave a presentation to the KRFF club in Bako and a few members have gone out with him and reccomend him as a guide who'll put you on what you want if you let him know what that is. I understand he's pretty easy with info if you go to his shop and spend a little $. Of course he is a guide and would rather take you out than give away the good spots for "free". He's in the SW portion of Utah.

I fish for my sanity. If I catch it, should I still practice catch and release?

Not sure when you are going on this trip, but here are a few suggestions.
I am assuming you will take the most direct route using IH 70 thru Colorado.
1) Just west of Glenwood Springs, north of IH 70, is a Colorado Cutthroat Creek called Mitchell.
2) Go south on 82 at Basalt turn up FR 105 to fish the Frying Pan.
3) Continuing east on IH 70 just before Vail is the Eagle River (drive south on 24) and Gore Creek right in Vail and upstream is a cool little creek.
4) Continuing east on IH 70 at Silverhorn, fish some of the Blue below Dillion Reservoir. (There is also a small Cutthroat creek north of Frisco called Meadow Creek and good creek fishing upstream of Dillion Res. like: Crystal and Spruce Creeks)
5) You should also consider fishing the South Platte below Elevenmile Canyon res. and above Spinney. Both of these places are epic and should be on everybody's bucket list.
6) The North Fork of the South Platte off 285 especially up FR 120
7) Around Boulder in addition to RMNP, don't overlook La Cache de Poudre (west of Fort Collins on Hwy 14). And Joe Wright Lake just below the pass is full of Graylings.

Take your pick, they are all good!
