Sage Came Through.

On April 11th, I obliterated the tip of my TXL 1wt. My 3 piece rod became a 5 piece rod, courtesy of my not having it in a rod tube during transport. Sage received it on the 16th and said it would be 3-6 weeks for repair. I was bummed, to say the least, as I hoped to have it for a couple of spring trips, but I shouldn't have broke it to begin with.... :fireangry:

At the 6 week mark, I emailed to inquire the status and did not hear anything. At the 7 week mark, I was getting ready to shoot off another email when I got a call from Sage customer service saying it would arrive that day.

When I opened it, the new section was beautiful, as expected. What was unexpected was that my cork, which had a small 1/2" gouge at the top, had been replaced as well. Even more, though... The reel seat and insert had always been just the tiniest bit loose from the get-go. It didn't effect performance, but I always noticed it when seating the reel.

It was replaced as well! I know this because my info was printed on the base of the insert and it was no longer there. Now it was nice new walnut insert and bronze seat.

So, kudos to Sage for really going the extra mile.

Good deal Curtis. I think for the prices we pay the customer service had better be exceptional each and every time we have an issue. Glad it worked out for you!

See, I told you. They're totally about customer service. Your purchases keep them going, and they know that.

On another note, I was serious when I told you I'd ship or bring you a rod to use until your baby cleared rehab. You'd just have to get over using a TXL because once you used an SPL for a full session, you'd go crazy over its' softness and finesse and the TXL would become toothpicks. ;)

Are you sure they didn't just send you a new rod?

I've never had to have a Sage rod sent in (yet), but when I've sent rods back to TFO or Echo they've just sent me brand new rods in return.

The 3 piece has been out of production for almost 3 years. I think that's why it took so long- they said they would have to fabricate a new section.

Sage has always come through for me. I have sent them three rods in the last two years, and they have repaired them perfectly or in the case of an old RP replaced it with a RPL.

I have always received the best in warranty service from Sage and Loomis.
I also have met and known the area reps for San Antonio for years. Recently Cary quit working for Sage and I met the new rep David Oldham, his dad Terry makes jigs an spinnerbaits for Bass fishing professionals. David had not done much Trout fishing so I took him down to the Guadalupe and introduced him to our Trout Fishery.
Last year I lost one of my favorite rods a Sage 690 XP that I built up from a blank in the early 90's. I built it with a larger than average superfine grip, struble aluminum reel seat, and SIC titanium framed guides. It had a perfect balance and I loved it's action. When I lost it last year, I built a 690 ONE along the same lines to replace it. It's a great rod, but it is faster/stiffer than the XP blank. It is also lighter so it's has a different balance, more towards the grip. I still missed my old XP. So I called David knowing that Sage could replace broken blanks for XPs but was no longer selling new XP blanks. I asked for a favor and he was able to sell me a brand new 690 2 piece XP blank. I went out to see Dennis at Rodmakers today and there was a brand new XP blank. I had to order a new reel seat, Why did struble go out of business?, and when it comes in I will begin building a copy of my old friend. What a special favor from David, I owe him a couple more fishing trips.

Good news Curtis!
They do go the extra mile.

Back in 1994 I took a rod building class taught by a member of the Green family, then owners of Sage. I was broke and bought a factory blem RPL+696 for steelhead

Sixteen years later, the rod breaks in a car door. I call Sage to tell them the rod's history then mail in my check and rod. Later Sage calls and connects me with an in-house fishing guide. Cool, the guide says that he dug everywhere and can't find a top section but he did find a top section to a RPL 7100. He took the rod out, casted it, and said it was smooth as butter and actually casts better than the 696+. Anyways, I could try it and send back if not happy.

It did cast better and they mailed my check back!!!! All for a factory second blem which they don't warranty anyways.
