Yeap most are going for $350 and up on Ebay.
IMO they are some of the best dryfly rods you'll ever cast. Then again I prefer fast action rods. These rods still have a fast taper but a relatively soft tip that allows for close in work as well as way out there. I have 2 different ones: a 389 graphite II and a 486 graphite III. I would like to get a shorter one 7-7 3/4 in a 3 or 4 weight for some of the smaller creeks I fish. So far everytime I go to bid on one it goes over $400. Still looking for a bargin in good condition.

They're a good rod but not $945 worth of good (IMNSHO). I've owned several of the 389ll rods and I like the 389 slt every bit as much, but the ll have a cult following and I suspect they'll continue to demand a high price into the immediate future.

I have a LL 389 and a LL 490 both of which I love to fish. They are great light weight rods, but I agree with Mike, they are not worth $900 compared to lots of other rods like the Scott G series or the Sage SLT. But now that I own them, I wouldn't sell them.

I agree with what others have said. They are rad but if I am going to spend that kind of money, it would be on something else. Besides when I go light line it is a SPL or SLT for me of the 0wt variety

I'm sorry, but... for 935 bucks, the two guys bidding were having an obvious war that led to that amount. It wasn't about "I have to have that rod" ... it was about, "I'm not going to let YOU have that rod." That's an absurd price regardless of brand or model. The winner ripped himself off. Great for the seller, though. I'll bet he was pleasantly surprised.

That bidding was an anomaly and not the usual price for that rod. They sell on a regular basis for around $400 which seems like a pretty fair price to own what many consider to be one of the best designed rods that Sage ever made.

I think the old Scott G series 4 and 5 wts are great rods, and they often sell for a few hundred dollars. If I was looking for a great dry fly rod, that's what I would probably buy rather than anything new.

I did win a Sage LL 4711 just last night after seeing this article for a relatively good price of $331.
It's headed this way and I will use it when up in Colorado in 2 weeks. I'll let you know what I think of this one.

Dang it! I knew I should have bid $950! :roll:

To me, it looks like the one bidder set a really high max bid. If I had to guess, it was $1k. The poor other guy kept getting out bid when he placed a higher bid. He finally came to his senses, and stopped bidding. Hope the winner can actually enjoy the rod he paid $945 for.
