The cost. seems like most fly fishing stuff is pretty pricey. Or maybe I am just a real cheapskate. Wind-absolutley a stinker. Ticks and snakes- o.k not so much a fly fishing thing but they both really creep me out and I seem to run into them while fly fishing so there you go. People that try to crowd me- if some one slides in and I can easily fish the water that they are going to try fish, too close. Lightning ! Did I mention tick's and snake's ?

What's an "old man noise"? And what's wrong with snoring? That's why they made earplugs, no? My gripe is when "Water Gremlins sinkers(?) were applied to fly fishing, the price went up bigtime. The solution was to go to the gear section and get em cheap!! Really? Or fish dry only... :bananadance:

I don't get to go often enough.

Fly fishing is like sex and pizza, even when it's not great, it's still pretty good!

People who can't put in 12 hours while fishing with me without wanting to go back to the cabin/trailer/motel room/etc to cook a big meal and/or call their wife/girlfriend/etc. I fish hard and I don't want to cut out early or waste part of the day.

Hey! We only fished 10 hours, but it was a good meal and some great beers.

Right now, above all, the drought and <oops> conditions are on my mind.

I don't like tying flies. Sure I get some satisfaction looking at a freshly tied fly, but I'd much rather buy a fly than take the time to tie one. The only time I do tie is if I need something right away, or can't buy what I need. Do I get more pleasure catching fish on flies I tied. No. Not at all. I have to tie some small BWO s, because I haven't found a good/consistent source for my specific needs(selective fish). Dreading it.

Jimbo Roberts wrote:It is getting tougher and tougher for me to get into some of the places I found over the decades of exploring. I want to go back and fish them again and again. But some of those places are at the end of a serious climb and my heart keeps reminding me I am not 39 anymore. Some of those places I guess I should never try to revisit again or I could become another mystery about what happened in the backcountry. But the memory of what lies up there keeps pushing into places I probably should not go.

Jimbo, I have the solution to your problem and a way that you can get rich at the same time. What you need is a fishing/hiking partner who will go with you into these areas. But not just any fishing/hiking partner will do! What you need is a young man, probably around 30. He should be around 6'2" or a bit taller. He should have a muscular build, preferably someone who lifts weights so that he can easily carry your butt back to the trailhead. Finally, and this is important, he should have a medical degree so that he can take care of you no matter what happens.

Now, when you have found out how to attract a tall, young, muscular man with a medical degree - patent it. Write a book about it, or, start a dating website like eHarmony. Or, better yet, do both. There are hundreds of thousands (millions?) of single (or married?) women out there who would kill for the secret of how to attract such a man - you'll make millions! (Well, after I get my cut it might not be millions, but it will still be a lot of money.) I hope that helps. :D

10 hours is pretty good for an old man :fart: . I was impressed. Opening day timeframe might be too late for our trip if we don't get much more rain.

1. Staring at a strike indicator any more.
2. Getting advice from someone that can't even fish or cast past their nose.
3. Foul hooking a fish.
4. Buying hooks.
5. Wondering where my hard earned money goes that I paid for my fishing licence.
6. Hitting the water late.
7. Looking for fly tying materials that I can't find (where in the **** did I put it!!!!!!!).
8. Getting dumped by a wave while surf fishing (that's for you SH).

I'd better stop now before I...........

Really? We're too late for you and guess hearing aids are in order. ;)

I can't really find much I don't like about fishing but plenty about aging that cuts into the ability to do the fishing I did years ago. Like said, a lot of good water is too high up the mountain for me to even consider anymore, and a drift trip for the day is much easier to handle than walking and wading these days. I just have to enjoy what fishing I'm able to do now and re-run old tapes in the mind's eye to remember what trips of the past were like.
