Pray for rain/snow or learn to fish for chickens

Postby midger » February 15th, 2014, 10:03 pm

Everything's getting really dry in the locals and there is not much on the horizon. It got up to 65 degrees up here in the mountains today. Normally it should be in the high 20s or low 30s.

We all are going to have to learn to fish for chickens if we don't get some weather soon.

Ha, ha, ha! Fishin' for Chickens, what a hoot! Where in the world did you find this? It made me laugh and I needed a good laugh, thanks.

I hope we don't have to sit on the porch and fish for chickens, ha! ;)

No. Still fishing for chickens off the back deck.

Live crickets are fun to watch chickens chase after. Also, they love strawberries. Worked on my grandma's chickens. Might have to get creative to tie up strawberries, ha!

Luckily for me SD Bay still has plenty of water and some willing fish or I'd be out in the front yard fishing for chickens ;) ;)

Friend of mine was stationed at China Lake some years ago. He used to entertain himself by fly fishing for lizards with a colored indicator. The way it's going Jon is going to have great "fishing" right at his doorstep. :comfort:

I like "Cat" fishing myself. Mittens is always ready to pounce.
Although I did have an interesting encounter fishing for a Mockingbird one afternoon in the front yard.

I caught a wild boar that weighed 85#. My buddy had a field of bell peppers that was getting raided. We got a depradation permit and sliced up a bag of apples. I used a surf rod and a 1/4 of an Apple. Being on the ground wasn't my brightest idea, I should have been in the bed of the truck. Aiming my .45 while trying to keep control of the pig with the rod was nearly impossible. Mike chickened out and jumped in his truck the 1st time the pig charged. That was definitely the hardest fighting critter I've ever had on my line. The noise was just amazing. There wasn't any crop damage the next 3 nights.

Tight Lines,
Wade

In my youth I spent most of a summer pretty well laid up with a broken ankle, sitting in the shade in the back yard and wishing for fishing.

Had an infestation of gophers, and was overcome with youthful creativity. Scraped away the dirt pile from the nearest hole, then strung monofilament from a spinning rod and fashioned a noose. Patience and timing were required, but when you got it right, a solid set with the rod produced an airborne gopher. A really pizzed off airborne gopher! Man, those little guys are sure nasty tempered hanging from a string.

Begs the question of what to do with them once you've caught them, but youthful creativity prevailed there too!

Like my Pig, those Gophers have the teeth to back-up that PO'd attitude. So what did your creative mind come up with? My pig became mostly Sausage; Breakfast, Italian, and Polish.

What tippet weight do you use for pigs? gophers?

Somehow I don't think the gophers were made into sausage--at least I hope not.

Wade,

One question: Was alcohol involved in your pig fishing? It sounds like a perfect combination of booze mixed with humor and a mission.
