The one that Mike mentions is by far the most famous. It is also used by backpackers to get dropped off and picked up and opens up a lot of remote trailheads that way. However, an awful lot of train tracks follow rivers, so I suspect that there may be other places where you could do what you mention, Ariel. Maybe someone else has heard of other options?
