El Nino Updates

Postby briansII » August 20th, 2014, 1:29 pm

I almost hate to say anything for fear of jinxing the whole thing, but......

I wondered if the above was optimistic, and found a recent report from NOAA

Whether the above plays out, it's better news than a month ago.

I have little faith in long range weather forecasting, weather prediction beyond 2-3 days is a crap shoot. Hopefully, the west coast has a wet winter. This possible El Nino does somewhat resemble the 1982-83 event. I was playing college baseball then and our season was was extended over a month because all the late season rain. Maybe this year might be the same. The interactions between the ocean and the atmosphere are so complex, I think we still have little understanding of how it all works.

I a rope to predict the weather. If it's wet, it's raining. If it's dry, it's sunny. If it moves, it's windy.

Weather forecaster is the only job where your reports can be wrong the majority of the time and still get a raise and Christmas Bonus!

Hope for rain!

After living in Colorado I lost faith even in short term forecast. Only place I've even been that rains when they call for a 0 % change of rain and sunny when there is a 100% chance of rain. It was like they weren't even trying to get it right.

I think the animals are better forecasters than the meteorologists and the fish are saying El Nino this year I believe.

I better work on pushing next year's summer trip to the Rockies back to late July.

I tend to agree with Craig. At least that's what I'm hoping.

Where I live, a strong El Nino in the summer means lots of tuna, dorado, and yellowtail in the local off-shore waters. I have been eating a lot of fresh fish this summer. Will it bring a lot of rain this winter, my fingers are crossed!

Have you guys seen the size of the massive hurricane Marie? She's a big ol biatch. Don't be surprised if we get slammed by a hurricane this season. The ocean temps are crazy warm.
