Nov. Hot

Postby briansII » November 10th, 2014, 11:14 am

Nov. 8th & 9th 2014 on a local tailwater. Wet wading in a t-shirt.

Ok, so it was only 79 degrees.....but c'mon. It's November! The morning air was chilly(upper 50s), but water temps were still above normal for this time of year. Peeled my jacket off by 9:30 am. :|

I was testing new lines, a skater, and fished a little bit. Happy to report my skater didn't do any bad things like sink, or roll, and the lines are excellent. Spent a little time swinging small softhackles for a few small, but pretty trout. No jumbo hatchery holdovers this weekend......which is actually nice for a change.

Haven't seen a red fly line in a long time. These new spey heads are hot.

I am very slightly envious of the temps. However, I am dragging a new toy from my trailer hitch so I don't mind. Two days ago, the afternoon temperatures was in the 50's on the Deschutes. This morning it was 14, wind was blowing, and felt even colder when out of the sun. Quite a few folks were out wading, swinging, and trying to stay warm. My choice was windshield exploring and casting a few flies if the sun was out, the wind was not blowing, and I could keep my feet dry. I don't care to venture if I am getting soft (or not), but it is nice to have options. It is time to keep heading south so the incoming precipitation is rain, not snow.

I like warm weather fishing, so enjoy the weather Brian.

A very strange year indeed.

Ants,

I would give up my tailwater and 79 degrees to icy weather on the Deshutes any day!

Have a great trip. I'm envious.
