New fly rod

Postby Image2325 » August 26th, 2015, 11:41 pm

Hey guys, I think I am ready to add to my collection of fly gear. I'm looking for a small creek rod setup for local streams. I have been using my redington ct 3 wt and would like to go smaller. I'm getting married soon so I can't break the bank. I have been looking at the tfo finesse 1 wt or maybe a butterstick teamed up with a orvis battenkill reel. Thanks for the help!

I think the appropriate wedding gift would be the Sage TXL 7'10" 1wt, which is on sale at The Gorge Fly Shop. Normally $625, blowing out at $359. I have the older 3 piece version and it's my all time favorite stick.

I agree! That's some price. A couple of years back I had the opportunity to take out three of Sage's little rods for a day of grayling fishing, and the #1 was the best of the litter by a mile (also fished a 0 and a 2). It cast better and handled fish better than even the 2 for some reason. I was in absolute pain when I gave that rod back to the shop. Now I have to make a decision about the Gorge sale, and it's not going to be easy to walk away. I have other light rods to get me by, but that TXL 1 is a standout.

You better have Santa place it on layaway, as they won't last long at that blowout pricing. ;)

Good pairing. The key to getting new rods is to have so many that the wife never knows when a new one comes in. ;)

My only fear is when I die, my wife sells my flyrods and reels for what I told her I paid for them! ;)

Bro, you won't be disappointed! Now, if we could just get some fishable water in the locals....
