New to the Bay Area

Postby Wingnut » December 29th, 2015, 9:21 am

I am getting a little twitchy and I need to get out and fish. Any info on the Yuba would be helpful. Yes I did all the google searches and have some info but first hand knowledge would be nice.

Cheers,

Some say, posting too much about the Yuba. ;) But yes, there is an ongoing thread on the Y, and a new one pops up just about every week.

Yep, whut Brian said. Kiene's would be the best bet for info on the Zooba! Come 1 Jan, all the central valley tailwater rivers open up and there will be a lot more water available for trout fishers besides the Zooba. For steelhead, the central coast rivers are now open, but check the regulations as they have complex and restrictive regulations. Actually, checking the fishing regulations booklet is a great start to find some local waters during winter. If they're open to fishing, they generally have some fishing ops.

Since I hate the Zooba and rarely waste my time fishing there, I'll answer your question! Yes, around the 20 bridge is a popular access point. A road also goes down the Zooba from the bridge (south side) and that's also quite popular. Hammond Grove & Sycamore (public access points from HWY 20) are also quite popular. A popular float is from the 20 bridge down to Hammond/Sycamore if you have a floaty watercraft like a pontoon.

Hey!! I fish there. :fireangry: Well, maybe only a few times a year. ;)

Wingnut. There is so much info on that river(Kienes forum), you should have no problem finding what you need to catch fish. Bob nailed the access points.

Send me some of your sourdough and I might talk. Actually, I know nothing about stuff up there. I'm just missing your bread...

Sorry Brian, but I'm feeling generous and in the sharing holiday spirit today!!! :booty:
But, while there is a ton of info on Kiene's, in reality the Zooba is a harsh mistress and very tough for newbies to actually catch fish from. :FIRE:

I'm torn between slathering it in butter with Tami's fig preserves, or melting a slice of aged Tillamook over it....
