Yosemite NP v. Looming Corpocracy

Unbelievable, Ahwahnee Hotel, Curry Village, even the Yosemite National Park name itself at risk.

I've been following that. <oops>.... What's next? Oops, sorry, it's not the John Muir Trail, it's the Crazy Scot Trail. National identity should not be for sale.

Starbucks Dome? Folgers Falls? Taco Bell Meadows?

What was that Stallone movie, Demolition Man, where corporations rule the world?

They're here!!!!

HAH! I was just going to post the article!

Just plain CRAZY...You can buy the rights to our NP names, but you can't use BLM land because of a turtle!

and FWIW....ARAMARK SUCKS!

Anything "reported by Fox News" is dubious in my view, but I read it. But it seems like the fault lies with the park service for not making the names a intrinsic part of the park.

And shame on DNCY for it's greed mongering.

A little bit of misinformation here. The ruling only applies to man-made structures, and does not include natural features. Delaware Corp tried to get the name Yosemite also included but that got shot down by the courts.

I agree, but the LA Times, SD Union, and NY Times all have the same story.

Unlike the annual "war on Christmas" BS.

It doesn't surprise me one bit. The place has turned into an amusement park rather than a wilderness experience.

Yeah, this issue was widely reported, from Fox to the Sierra Club. So all the folks from the left to the right can hold hands on this issue and sing....

Can we sing this instead?
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

Did I miss something? I'm not seeing anything about NPS selling naming rights to corporations. I read an article about the NPS not locking down trademarks and a dubious private entity playing an asinine game of ransom because they were butthurt about not getting a contract.

Legally the company can * the NPS at this point with the names, either holding on to them forever or being paid to return them. However, I think a very public effort should be made to shame this company into returning the naming rights at no cost to taxpayers (because that's who foots the bill if the NPS pays for the return of the trademarked names). Those names have a historical identity for our nation and pressure to honor that should be put on that company by everyone, including other corporations.
