Pennsylvania Fly Fishing?

Postby clee » March 8th, 2018, 3:52 pm

Looks like I have an opportunity to head out to PA for a week and do some fishing in late June. Anyone of you guys fished this state? Or know a little about it? Anything I should be researching? I'm open to anything. Any part of the state. Any species, trout, smallies, muskie, etc. Any info to lead me to any direction is helpful. This state is pluto to me. I haven't a clue. So any tidbit of info narrows my research down.

Thanks.

Check the area you will want to fish and then find a fly shop in the area. That's what I did when I went to Vermont a couple of years ago, worked good for me.

My dad lives on Laurel Lake in the Allegheny Mountains. Best flyfishing I ever had with bass, pike, bluegill, and perch, usually on one streamer! The Susquehanna River is amazing for small mouth on clousers.

My father retired in Chambersburg, just west of Gettysburg. There is Falling Spring, a Limestone creek that fishes much like Hot Creek, http://www.fallingsprings.com/ - Yellow Breeches in Boiling Spring, others in the area, Big Spring & the Letort. Up around State College (Penn State) there are numerous creeks, Spring Creek & Penns. Check in with local fly shops, some creeks fish best with small flies like we use in Hot Creek some with much larger nymphs. Have fun.

Well, definitely Penns Creek there. I would urge you to go south to Carlisle and fish the Letort
