So it starts off like this:
Hey hon, what are you doing this Friday?
I dunno.
You going fishing with Mark?
He hasn’t mentioned anything yet.
Well then, why don’t we go to Bishop, I want to see the snow on the Sierras and you can show me some of the places you fish. And we can stop at our favorite little restaurant in Kramer Jct. for Breakfast.
Hey, sounds good to me. Overnighter?
Nope, let’s just go up for the day, and we can take Maddi too!
YEOWWW!
I packed the truck Thursday night, mostly stuff for Maddi, and even snuck in a little fishing gear, you know, just in case……
Well, I like getting and early start, but as you can see, by the time we get on the 15, daybreak was already upon us!
Martha is a great Co-pilot and Maddi is a great traveler too!
About an hour after breakfast, we were at the base of the Sierra, I showed Martha this little tiny road that snakes up this canyon for a bout nine miles, she asked if we could go up, sure we can!
So up we went…….
and went….
all the way into the next county!
The Summit, OMG it’s beautiful, you can see forever!
The Winter Domes
I wanted to see if I could make it to the River…..Lesson, when the pavement runs out, don’t try to turn around!
Fortunately, with me pushing and her great driving skills, we managed to get the Exploder back on the pavement, and backed up for about a mile!
But it was worth it, for this is what I came to see,
The SFK looking to the North,
And to the South.
Well time to head back to the 395, downhill window down, 35 degrees!
Maddi just loved it!
Next stop Lone Pine, Whitney was standing as proud as usual, the Sentinel of the Sierras
Martha’s camera was busy too!
A few miles north, and one of my favorite little stops, and I managed to get a pretty decent look.
Back on the road for the last few miles,
Are we there yet?
Yes we are, and I am hungry!
After a really great lunch, we headed north a bit, I have not fished this part since January of 2007, when did the fence go up?
Maddi looked like she was ready to spot for me, well camouflaged too!
The high clouds and late sun made for some interesting conditions.
What really amazes me is the beauty that can be overlooked when ones eyes are focused on the water!
Time to head out and explore another location.
Again, up a narrow canyon road we head, I hope we don’t get stuck up here too!
I cannot believe that I am the only one that has stepped here since the last snow!
The road ends, we are not stuck and the day is coming to an end.
Side note: Martha decides to let Maddi romp in the snow, off-lead! Bad move, the snow touches Maddi’s paws for the first time in her life….and she loves it! She bolts! All the screaming in the world could not get her to stop! That’s a Cairn Terrier for you. The only thing that stopped her was a deep snow drift that she jumped into and stalled long enough for me to put the grab on her! Disaster averted!
All too soon the shadows are getting longer, and it is time to bid farewell and start heading down to the highway and south again.
One last pit stop for a doggie feeding, and we are non-stop for the next three
hours.
I was hoping for a bit more color, but this was as good as it got.
By 11pm and 700 miles later, I was in bed, dead to the world.
I have decided that I am now too old to drive undivided two lane highways for 200 miles AT NIGHT!
Oh Yeah, never did break out the fishing gear! And I was good with it.
Thanks for letting me share.
