I found this out when rec.gov sent me an email refund for my upcoming wilderness permit this weekend. I get it, the whole west is on fire. Still, it’s hard not to be bummed since my two older children were going with me. Oh well, next year.

FYI this closure effects the whole southern half of the state.

Humboldt Toiyabe NF (basically north of Conway Summit) has not closed. Maybe you can find something out of Bridgeport. Keeping in mind that the Slink Fire north of there could be a factor with smoke.

I don't know. I want our public land to be open to public access as much as possible... but what has happened these last few days has seen forest resources stretched to the limit doing fire work, evac, etc... there simply isn't enough resources to handle an additional crisis, and conditions are set to remain risky this week.

Which is to say, without a few unfortunate ignition events, the forests could have been available for recreation over the Holiday - a public resource for the public to enjoy.

BLM has closures also. The area below Lake Isabella Dam was closed for a year when Covid closures started.

A recent closure was the drainage area for the Creek Fire.

There is a BLM closure around Slink Fire.

You know, I think the blue/pink reveal parties is a dumb trend overall... but whatever, to each their own. The problem was * using smokebombs/fireworks in a fire prone area.

People do all sorts of stupid things that isn't problematic to me - I really don't care if people want to do these gender reveals... just don't use pyrotechnics for any reason when there's high fire danger.

I agree 100% with that.
Would hate to see the bill for this gender reveal it will not be cheap.

I am currently in the YNP area and even if all back country was open, I would be hesitant due to insanely poor air quality. All said, I hope you are successful and would love to hear what pans out for you. Between Covid, family emergencies and fires - I cannot count the number of angling (and work even) plans that have been broadsided for me ... tough year.

Welps, they just closed down Yosemite and because my trip is 3 days away, no refunds on my lodging in Oakhurst.

2020 continues to rear it's ugly head.

So, any ideas of what I can do now? Perhaps a 4 hour drive to San Francisco and sight seeing?

If Yosemite is closed, the trip over the mountains to the east side isn't possible.

Many of the trails are within forest land which are all closed now.

Any tips? I'll appreciate anything right now.

Get on a sport boat out of San Diego, the bluefin, yellowfin, and yellowtail bites are on fire. My buddy just got a 230 pound bluefin last week!

With Yosemite closed may want to head north to Tahoe area. The Carson River and a few other area streams, Little Truckee River, offer excellent fall fishing with reduced crowds. I know you will lose on Yosemite area lodging, but can find pretty reasonable accommodations in the area before the snow flies.

You have to check your specific National Forest, USNPS, BLM and specific locations within said federal public lands. Most of NorCal has also been impacted by the closure, including the very popular Trinity River. So, it's not just restricted to SoCal. But starting today 9-19, some of the restrictions are being eased. And some are not. Check your specifics with local authorities. Anything posted on an internet fishing forum (like this one) could be obsolete five minutes after posting.
