I spent a week on the Big Sur river last fall, after the freshwater season closed. There was a killer series of pools behind the cabin we rented, and I grew fond of filling my pockets with breadcrumbs and "drifting" 'em to waiting fish. There was one nice-sized wild 'bow in there...she'd take chunks of bread in a single gulp (the dinks spent their energy breaking up the chunks).
I learned one thing: to get the perfect drift, you need to eliminate the flyline and rod.
