Guys, stumbled on to this Czech nymphing thang, looks pretty interesting. Any of you ever try it, or know af any good reading. I would like to dive into this subject a little.

Oh yes. It works. I fished with Zee too. I am by no means proficient with the method, but it works. Like anything else, it takes practice. It's not a catch-all nymphing method though. You need to use it in the right circumstances with the right rig - usually a two or three fly rig, no indicator.

You could say, fish the lower Owens. Walk down river from your access point and fish your way back up. You would find water that indicator nymphing was key, then a section where high stick nymphing was best, then maybe some perfect water for Czech/Polish (short line) nymphing.

I'd suggest you give it a go, but expect to change up your method as fish.

Oh yeah, get used to tying lots of knots. ;)

I almost always do this with a three fly rig lately. Have fun. :D
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

Yup, fished with Zee. Ya know, fish will eat his spit. When I fished with Zee, we pretty much were streamer fishing, so didn't get schooled on this one.

I think I'll try czech dry nymphing: a size #14, #16 and #18 blue-winged olive during a hatch, maybe toss on an RS2 'trailer' as well. J/k, but maybe not. I have often fished two dries, why not three? As long as you are somewhere where drag isn't a big consideration. Hmmmmmm. I think this calls for some research! ;) Jon

I found this site extremely helpful, answers questions I had bout how to tie fly rigs and so on. While I don't quite fish Czech style I have incorporated some of techniques, heavily weighted flies that sink fast instead of just weight on the line.
http://www.flyguysoutfitting.com/droppers.html - also has a link to tie an orvis knot that I have been using instead of double surgeons.

Only one fly at a time buddy...hehe Just kidding. Throwing 3 dries is an interesting endeavor and can prove challenging and very rewarding! Give it a whirl...

It's a lot easier than you think. You can't do it everywhere, but without getting into too much detail, all you really do is stick your rod out and wait to feel the bite as it drifts.
