A tribute to those who've given me so much.

A tribute to those who've given me so much.

Honestly, I think I've become a pretty * proficient small-creek fisherman, and I owe a lot to people on this forum who I've fished with and learned from. You've all inspired and shaped me as a flyfisherman, and I owe each of you a great deal.

I don't mean for this to be an all-inclusive list, but a tribute to a few special folks who have had major influence on me.

To Shane (I hope the JMT is going well for you, has Samson been slayed?), who taught me to not be afraid of Big, Bushy flies on small creeks:

To flybob, who taught me to love the dink, fish wets, Spongebob caddis, and love tails of pools:

To Dr Creek, who taight me to high-stick dries, and love the stimulator:

To Midger and Mark (1mocast), who inspired and helped me jump headlong into fly-tying... I owe you guys big time (Steve Schalla, your website is also a huge inspiration):

To Tycaster (and flybob), for the love of Browns:

To Spenser, who's willingness to be my fishing partner has made so many great experiences possible:

To Aaron (shootinghead) with whom I share a special place, yet have never met first-hand:

I don't mean for this to be comprehensive... all I intend is to honor a few, of the MANY, who have become friends through this great sport and our online community.

Let none of us forget the impact we have on each other.

You guys have each shaped who I am, and what I am as a fisherman. I thank you, and look forward to fishing with everyone soon. I hope that each of us can take the time to reflect on others that have influenced us.
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

Cool post Ray, I think we all have a similar list of good people we owe some gratitude.

Very nice thought, Ray. I would list you as someone who shared some water with me and taught me a lot. It's important to remember where we came from and those who helped along the way.

Nice Ray! Even nice-er  that you thought and took the time to say it. As others have said, we all have such a list if we only take the time to think of them. And many are folks we may not even have met in person…yet. Well done. :D :D :D
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

I wanted to, but last night while I was writing this trying to sober up before bed, I couldn't think of a picture to tie to a thank you to Craig. Problem solved.

To Craig, for having this website that brings flyfishers together.

By coincidence only, the original post here, I think, was my 999th post. Cool.
