Lost Coast backpack - anyone interested?

Postby Papasequoia » July 28th, 2009, 12:16 pm

This is a long shot, but my Glacier NP plans have almost certainly fallen through. So, I've been searching around for backpack trip closer to home to make up for it and the Lost Coast is one that I have always had on my life list. The one glitch is that it is a one-way trip (4 nights) which means you either have to pay for a shuttle service ($200 for two people! plus $25 each additional person), or do what some people do and take two cars, start hiking at opposite ends, meeting in the middle to exchange car keys. You then meet back up somewhere at the end of the trip and switch back. Is anyone at all interested in doing this hike and working out a shuttle? Anyone who's been planning on a backpack trip but hadn't quite decided where yet? I'm hoping to go somewhere between the 3rd and the 11th or 12th, so any four days in that time frame works for me. If so, please drop me a line. If not, I'll probably swallow hard and cough up the $250 for the shuttle or find a different trip somewhere. Thanks, Jon

PS Here are some pics from someone who posted a trip report that I stumbled across while researching the hike: http://www.calipidder.com/zenphoto/cali ... stcoast08/

Oh, btw, the Lost Coast is located south of Arcata/Eureka.

That looks like a great trek, Jon! Hope you can work out the shuttle details.

Have you considered the Tahoe rim?

a little closer to home... although, the lost coast area is amazing.
