Decent flies. I've been buying from them for over a year now and have been pretty happy with the flies. At the prices, I would be hard pressed to complain about a few broken hooks, but it has rarely happened. This of course gives me very little to complain about.

In fact, I just got in an order for several dozen flies the other day.

I seriously hope you're joking... I am pretty sure 99% of tiers will never break even tying vs. buying. Not to say we don't tie... but it sure as * ain't for the economics of it.

Nothing beats catching a fish on a fly you tied. Or better yet one you mooched off a friend If they are good ties go for it. For flies sold that cheap I would spend a little time adding some head cement.

I'm with rayfound. My wallet tells me that tying my own flies isn't a great cost saver. I build my own rods (including Bamboo), tie flies and make furled leaders. The only one of those that saves money is the furled leader making. Ok, maybe building a rod can be a cost savings. Fly fishing and everything involved is not a hobby, its an obsession . The sooner you admit it and give in to it, the better off you'll be.

I just received 74 flies for 42.50. I checked them out careful and find them to be in excellent condition. The real test will be when I try them on the water in three months. I'll report back at that time.

It was not to be taken literally... but the personal satisfaction of hooking & landing a fish on a Fly YOU tyed... As others have already stated: "it ain't about economics" .... It's about personal accomplishment... (which you can't put a price on..)

For me, I tie about 95% of my flies. I tend to be a KIS tier. (Keep it simple)

It is just that I am a lazy *** sometimes and BUY flies that take longer to tie. Such as the Stimi (sorry Doc!). I have all the materials to tie them and I have tied them in the past.

That's another great thing about Flystop.com…I have never had more than four days from order to delivery (not counting a Sunday). Very timely service and always with a hand written note from, I believe, the owner.

I have placed an order on Tuesday evening and had the flies in the mail on Friday in time for the weekends fishing.

I must agree that tying my own flies and catching fish on them is one of the most enjoyable pastimes I've experienced, second only to visiting my friends at the fly shop. I plan on still purchasing flies from the fly shop, but for the $$$ I don't think I can tie flies quick enough or well enough.

We have only had 227 days so far this year and you have fished over 120? Wow, Ariel, that might be some kind of record for someone who isn't retired or a guide! That's more than fishing every other day, how do you do it? Good on ya!

As I mentioned I live only 5 mim/ 10 min from Kenneth Hahn Park, which sports two ponds. These ponds are stocked with Catfish in the summer and trout in the winter. I arrive at around 6:00 am and leave around 7:30 having to be at work by 8:00, Almost every morning, as I drive to work, I stop by the park around 2:30, and fish for 1.5 to 3 hours for little bluegill and little bass on my return trip from work, counting this as one day of fishing.
2009- Kern: 4 days
Owens: 23 days
East Walker: 8 days
West Walker: 2 days
Saltwater: 3 days
Balboa Park: 1 day
Kenny Hahn: 74 days
San G: 2 days
Los A River: 2 days
So my dear Papa it is possible to fish around 120 days with in the number of days in the year we have had so far. If I had not had surgery I would have had over 200 days this year, since I had planned to begin fishing the Kern this month, well into October.
