Greetings all,
I just wanted to shout to the world that I caught my first fish on a fly!
After a lifetime of fishing with conventional gear, I decide to finally take up fly fishing. I bought a combo, attended a couple casting classes, read up on books and message boards (like this one), practiced a few times and finally felt ready to try to actually catch a fish.
So this past weekend my friends invited me on camping trip up to the Franklin Lake out of Mineral King in Sequioa, a lake full of willing, hungry, and not very picky Brookies willing to forgive my flailing attempts at casting. It was time for my fly fishing debut.
After a tough hike, I rigged up, tied on a dry fly, and hit the lake. On my third "cast" (I have a long way to go), Fish on!
I went on to catch and release about a dozen more. It was magical. I now understand the appeal. I'm an addict!
I plan to learn from you all and I hope to be able to contribute sometimes. I need to get back out there badly!
