I saw the advertised savings on their website yesterday and talked to Stanbery about their gear this morning.

I ended up ordering a GPX 5/6 and two extra spools.

I was hesitant about the second extra spool, but then I saw that over $150 total order was free shipping, so I went with the second spool as well considering that I was going to be charged $22 for shipping when I ordered just one.

Now I just have to pay through the nose for the new line

I have a GPR 3/4 and a GPX5/6 and I really like them both. Nice smooth drag on both of them.

I would go with the $87. GPX. They say it's type 3 anodizing, which is the best(handful of high end reels use type III)used for reels. I assume they are talking about the black frame, as the spools are silver. The other reels are cast and anodized, or machined and powder coated. I have the Bugati. Ok reel, but I wouldn't use it in the salt.

Are you getting Trinity or Bridgestone?
Do any of you already own them? What do you think about them?

I am definitely getting a pair, but I could practically buy two pairs of the Bridgestone for the price of one pair of Trinity...

That GPX reel looks alright for the Saltwater... Not an over-sized, lightweight freshwater reel that they decided to offer as a saltwater reel... Really light is fine for trout, but I've seen first hand what a Over-sized Trout reel does in the Ocean.. Blam-O!!!! not pretty and the Fish of a life time is Gone...

You should be Fine with that Reel in a 7wt....

Salty Dog has spoken. With an endorsement like that, I'd certainly give the gpx a shot.

I have a GP, Bugati, and the lowest model, a topwater. All these are great for freshwater. The reels are a bit heavier than some, but frankly, I didn't notice that being a problem. I sometimes think flyfishers get wrapped around the axle thinking they have to own the lightest of everything and that their reels should weigh 1/4 ounce. (Unless you're using it for backpacking, then every ounce counts)
