Have any of you ever applied Armor All to your Fly Lines?

Yes. It works. I'd be careful about using it on the newer self lubricating lines. But for older style lines it works wonders. Once you apply it, make sure you "buff" the line with a clean cloth to remove the excess.

So what does it do? Cleans the line? makes it float? Seals the cuts? Make it slick? I also heard that you only use it on the older lines.
Another point: I was given this tip as well.
If you have an old 5wt WF line take it off the reel, flip it over, tie the tapper end to the reel and now use the line as a 3wt or 2wt. Have you ever heard of this? I'm going to try this out.

Armor all would add a waterproof coating, a slickness like a line dressing.

No, i don't think the straight level line from a 5wt would make good 3wt line. Level lines cast like turds, no matter what weight rod you use.
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

What Ray said about turning the 5wt. line around for a 3 wt. it would just be Level line and that casts like crap.....

Also the old one where a double taper can be turned around and used for extended period of time.. My experience (and alot of other Folks I've talked with) is that the entire line goes bad at about the same rate (sure there won't be many cracks in the unused portion, but the line goes bad all at the same time).

My concern with Armour All is the Residue from it's chemical make up getting into the water....

Armor All is a plastic cleaner developed for PVC. Most older flylines use PVC. It cleans, adds slickness, and "rejuvenates" the PVC coating (helps protect against PVC cracking). After applying with an Armor All moistened cloth, you "buff" the line clean with a clean cloth. If you are leaving enough on the surface to get in the water, you aren't doing it right and it will cause every dirt particle in the world to stick to your flyline! It's a good cheap line cleaner that adds a tremendous amount of slickness to your flyline.

Hi Bob,

Have you found buffing to add static electricity to the line. I've had a couple do that during the buffing process.

...............so I quit cleaning my lines. Any excuse to be a lazy, lump, works for me. :bananadance:

OK. I just want to make sure my 'line' of thinking was correct. I believe that if you clean your line of grit and dress it with the proper products the life of said line should be taken care of. I also couldn't figure out how a level line made for a 5wt could automatically be applicable to a 3wt just by reversal. Oh and DR. CREEK are you picking that up at the local Pleasure Chest? Ya... I knew you were.
thanks all.

What is the determined age of/ or year that makes a flyline the older generation? Did all companies change up the lines in roughly the same year? Just trying to find out what category my lines will fall into.
