NPS staff will present their study, analysis, and proposals and then solicit public comments.

The National Park Service is seeking our input for their congressionally mandated “San Gabriel Watershed and Mountains Special Resource Study”

This recently released study includes a visionary proposal to incorporate our San Gabriel Mountains into a new National Recreation Area (NRA) modeled after the successful and collaborative Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

An NRA would result in a better trail system for healthy outdoor recreation such as hiking, fishing, and horsebackriding, improved campgrounds, as well as preservation of the mountains’ rich biodiversity, dynamic river system, and historical sites.

This proposal would also help bring more re$ource$ to the historically underfunded Angeles National Forest.

Did you know that the San Gabriel Mountains are one of the 'richest areas for fresh water fish in Southern California' or that they contain rocks more than 1 billion years old? Or that they are among the fastest growing mountains in the world?
