Also, on a river such as the Eel, can I expect to catch fish by just indi nymphing rainbow trout water? It appears there might be an off chance at a steelhead too, especially with weather coming in. What say you?

There are some waters up there (I think coastal lagoons) where one may target searun cutts. That could be really cool. Aside from fishing, I always wanted to find a Pacific Giant Salamander in the wild. Here's a crazy website I stumbled upon after seeing your post. http://www.humboldtherps.com/. How can you not love a critter who can chow down a banana slug?

Probably do better swinging Steelhead wetflies on a 8wt... the Eel is a Big, deep river... Don't fish it with Standard Trout gear, no good...
