What I have learned...

over the past few days. First and foremost I think I figured out how to fish the kings and what flies to use! big accomplishment for me!

Also, I am building a 6/7wt 11' switch rod for my trip north next week.. and found that feather inlays are really not that hard.. pretty easy.






Next... FOR ALL YOU SALTWATER GUYS!!! Not long ago, someone posted about some J. Ryall reels... These would make wonderful salt reels... the entire reel is covered in corrosion resistant coating, and its a smoking good deal.. wonderful reel!! I might buy another just for a spare spool...

Excellent reel and great reel for light salt work. I got the larger versionrim control... I loaded it with a 7wt floater... fits perfect, but a 6wt or even a 5wt would work well on this reel.

I am going to use it on my switch for now, but if I ever decide I want to use a skagit line or spey type line.. I will need a much larger reel.







Recently I have started using wulff triangle tapper lines. These are great lines, but different from Rio that I am used too. They are much lighter and lay out delicate lines. Great for light wt. glass rods.. I would highly recommend this line for slower action rods like the lamiglass honey. I have uplined my 3wt st. croix with a 4wt triangle tapper and its perfect. the 4wt triangle tapper is still lighter than a Rio 3wt line. Also the triangle tapper casts very nice.. not able to bomb huge casts like with my rio gold, but much more delicate...

The inlay looks great! The white is a clean look. Man I just gave away all of my Triangle Taper lines. Some of them were brand new. I liked them except in the wind.

The reels do appear to share some distinct similarities and they were both made in CA, I think. I loved my recently sold Tioga.

I am not 100% sure of the blank. I think its an older IM6 rainshadow. I got it off ebay, from a guy I have purchased stuff from before, but the blank was unnamed.

it has a bit of a slow recovery and its a bit tippy, but hopefully it performs well on the water. For 25 bucks, cant beat it.

I am so excited about thsi trip.. I cant get anything done. my house is a mess, and I am having a hard time sitting still long enough to wrap the final few guides... The anticipation of returning to waters that my father took me to as a kid is killing me... KILLING ME I SAY!!!!
