Wet wading options

Postby FlyinFish » January 7th, 2010, 7:24 am

Ok, so now that I have a pretty good idea of what breathables to buy, how about wet wading? I have certain preferences for hiking boots and don't really want to spend $150-$200 on two different sets of shoes.

What do you guys think of these: http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=1P2X ???

I can't imagine it's any worse than going in with just socks...

Those are perfect. Course I haven't gotten around to buying any yet, so I just wear 2 pairs of hiking socks... you just gotta fill up the extra boot space, the the neoprenes are nice.
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

I have the Simms ones, they're really great, but i mostly just got them because the orvis ones were a tad roomy

I use a old pair of Neoprene waders that I cut off below the knee. But a pair of hippers I bought last year are great for small streams this time of year. Wet wading in water that is below 50 is way to cold for me!

Those will work.

As long as you're warm. Try them and if you don't like 'em send them back. As far as the boots. I use my wading boots.

Good stuff! Thanks guys... I'm gonna stop by the Orvis store and see what they've got...

Ray, if you know your size and want me to pick you up a pair, let me know...

Just wear tennis shoes. I did it for 18 years till I recently bought a nice pair of wading boots for when I wear waders 2 years ago. So unless you want to spend more $$$ just wear your wading boots with the neoprene socks, or a beat up pair of tennis.... I'm a cheap ignorant * in some areas which I like, but hey I catch plenty of fish in my cheap ways.

I use the Simms guard socks, and have really liked them. I used em with my Korkers and got by just fine with wet wading and hiking in em.
