I personally wouldn't go to the Kern--especially in the winter. I'd take her to the Owens in February or March. It fishes very well then and if you hired a guide--ie like David--you'd be put on a lot of fish and her first experience would be a good one. Also, the O is a lot easier to wade than the Kern. Not nearly as intimidating, and there are some very good dry fly hatches in both those months during banker's hours--11:00 to 2:00--when it is warmest during the winter.
