I just got a reply back that they had a 2, 3, and the 4 piece classics in stock. Prices ranged from $375 to $500+ depending on the rod and condition.

One just sold on Ebay. It was a 2 piece graphite III that went for $380 with a nonoriginal tube.

You might also try posting your query on other sites. I did and found 3 in a couple of days. Two of those are still available.

Mike is correct, the Sage 389LL has attained cult status and commands top dollar. However, if you're willing to pay top dollar they can be had quite easily. they show up on Looneybay quite frequently.

The up side on that rod Doc, is that even if Ariel doesn't like it, there are many that do and reselling it wouldn't be difficult (Unless you pay top $$)

Geez I love you guys! I was just wondering. I'd read some post and was just dreaming of a nice high sticking rod like the new 99. I cast it at marriotts the other day and wasn't really able to assess it with out fishing one.... as the good dr. said.

If you're looking for a high sticking rod, the 389LL won't be it. It's moderate/soft action is far more suited to dry fly fishing, of course, I've heard of folks using a 0-000 for triple nymphing , so.............I may be misinformed.

Now now, I never said my SPL, SLT, or TXL were the best rods to do that with. Yea I did it but it was not the most pleasurale way to fish those rods

* yea. I had my frickin SLT rigged up with a 7.5' 4X leader. The point fly was a Hares ear, second was a KF wing emerger, and a RS2 as the last fly. I ran a bb size split shot about 15" above the point fly and a thigamabobber. Cast that thing sure was fun Just like it was "fun" when I fished my SPL and TXL in similar fashion

Back on topic I might pick up a LL for myself as well. I haven't decided on the 3 or 2wt version though. I PMed mike about it as I have never fished the 2 (I have fished the 3). He said that I would probably like the 2 better. I guess it doesnt much matter as a rod that "heavy" would be my streamer rod

The light lines are perfect for long leaders and little flies. After this thread started, it caused me to start looking for one of the shorter 3 wt light lines for a creek rod.

OK now I'm just floudering with information. Back to square 1. I was reading an article by Rim Chang (I believe that was his name) the guy who invented the RS2 and it mentioned this rod.

In the book "Fly Fishing High Mountain Lakes" by Gary LaFontaine, the 389LL is one of his go to rods. I have nymphed, thrown streamers, and do dries and have no problem. It is a slow rod, but I have had it for so many years, it just fits my style. When you catch a fish on this rod, it's a blast. Largest fish on this rod is a 22" rainbow. If you swing soft hackles, this rod is sweet.
