Fly box info

Postby rkfiske » February 20th, 2010, 10:17 pm

So, I've come to you all with a question. Do any of you put any kind of return information on your fly boxes? If so, what do you put? I'm a bit leery of putting my phone number or address down and have been considering maybe putting just my email address on there, so I could have fairly quick and still fairly anonymous discussions if someone was to find my box. I would love all your input on this topic, I wish I had some kind of info on the box that I lost on the owens, it might still be mine now if I had!

Name and cell number should be good enough. Reminds me I have to do that to all my boxs.

Good idea. I put a lanyard on most of mine, and use boxes that float, if I don't. I will now put my first name and cell number in them too.

Nice idea. At least then the folks that find the box will know who to call and thank. :fireangry:

Over the years I've found several boxes, nets, hemostats on zingers, and even rods. It would be nice to return them, but I've yet to find anything with any type of contact information. Probably wouldn't hurt to have it, as it might increase the odds of getting the box back.

And, no, I don't mark mine, but I remain very vigilant in making sure they are securely back in their designated pockets or the drift bag when floating.

The only reason I bring this up is that a nice gentleman happened upon my box floating down the owens to him and he at least tried to figure out who it belonged to, but unfortunately didn't pass by me on his way out. Had I put some kind of contact info on it I would still have it today and he would have had some kind of reward for my thanks to pay it forward. I know many of the streams I frequent I wouldn't stand a good chance of getting them back, but on certain waters it might be worth it.

That does bring up a great story though. I was up on a very remote stream and lost my nalgene. A few months later at the beginning of a backpacking trip with Ray, I noticed he had the same kind of nalgene I used to have. After a little discussion, we discovered that his nalgene was in fact the one I lost up there on the stream!

The funniest part of that story is that Ray still has your Nalgene
