So, I started a website

Postby rayfound » March 23rd, 2010, 1:40 pm

So, I kinda started a webpage on a lark the other night. Not really sure why, or what form it will take. Maybe it will feature ads, maybe it won't. maybe it will die a slow death, I'm not sure.

So far, I just threw a few pictures up and got things started.

Anyway, I want your feedback.... What would YOU read? What would make a flyfishing site worth visiting every couple days? I don't want it to become a clone of the Trout Underground or Moldy Chum. I don't want to just reprocess information from other Blogs, but I do want to put some opinion into it. There will likely be some fly-tying, some biology, and some other stuff too.

I may go as far as to start marketing a few items (Dry Fly floatant would be my first product!).

Ultimately, I hope to improve my writing, and perhaps have a few people read it.

I hope you will.

I like it. Well written, simple to read, and straight forward without a lot of extra verbage. Looking forward to reading more. If I ever get an extra Bamboo rod built I may have to send it to you for a review on your site. Of course I'll add return postage ;) .

PS - sorry about all the spelling mistakes. I guess the firefox spell-checker doesn't work inside of the blog editor, so I will be using Word to do everything off site first, before posting. I had no idea it was that bad (thanks Pete).

Most should be fixed now. That was embarrassing.

A very agreeable writing style; like chatting with a friend over a nice pale ale. I'm a visual guy, so more pics is always a good thing.

let's go take more trips so we can add more stuff to your site. Other than that, I think reviews of items are always awesome. Or suggestive articles. Not that kind of suggestive, though that would be ok too, but maybe like an article on a fly fisherman's perspective of backpacking equipment lists or (this is up your alley) DIY articles to save some money instead of (now this is what I'm good at) buying expensive and somewhat unnecessary items. I think maybe your creativity in DIY'ing could really shine!

I don't know why I didn't think about think about these suggestions when you originally asked me about the site earlier. I think the half-caf I just drank made me more thoughtful on the subject I guess. I should have saved some of these ideas for my website that will never get off the ground.

Nicely done. I would simply say populate the site with content. Writing every day will give you an idea of what and how you would like to communicate. You will gain readership that come back to see what you have to say or report on next. I know I will.
