Another nice video Bob. Last week we did Pyramid Lake with Mike. One of these times we'll have to go shad fishing too. Looks like fun.

Great slide show. Some chunky shad in there. Can't wait for them to start moving down here.

Looking forward to reading about your Shad adventures. I haven't made the trip north yet to chase Shad but they are on my bucket list of species I'd love to catch before I croak.

Bob,

What's the southern most California water where one could expect to have a decent shad outing?

All of the Central Valley rivers that are connected to the Pacific Ocean get shad runs to some degree. So any from the Merced River north can host shad runs. Unfortunately, all of the CV rivers south of the American River have very sporadic and inconsistent runs making it tough to find fish. Shad do not return to their stream of birth (like the salmonids do) so that makes intercepting shad runs a huge problem for us fishermen. Instead they migrate up the river(s) that have the best flow and water temps for their liking. For reliable and consistent shad fishing, the American River is the most southern river that I'd recommend. However, I have heard of good shad runs on both the Merced and Stanislaus in good years.

There's been a few reports of shad.

One of the guys is going to go on a recon trip and scope things out. I think it's going to be a good run this year.
