Fly Line Repair

Postby DubL HauL » April 26th, 2010, 7:22 pm

Hi guys

I have a question about the possibility of repairing my fly line. About 15ft into the line I have a area that is pretty bad and you can just see the internal braided line all of the external coating material is gone. I must have stepped on the line and damaged that area it's pretty bad actually. I can feel it going through the guides etc. Anyway to fix it?

Thanks
Andy

If it's a floating line, it's time to go shopping for a new one. New lines are good to have for the new season anyway.

Have you tried using UV Knot Sense? Apply a thin coat in the shade and cure it in the sun. Just a thought...

Here's one method. I've used pliobond and achieved results that were good enough to get me through a few more trips until I could get a new line, but the line won't be the same. Now if it is a double taper line, just turn it around, as I doubt you'll be casting over 85 feet all that often.

You can clean that area, rough it up a little bit, and use Aquaseal. Like Midger said, pliobond will work too. The UV stuff is ok too, but for some reason, it doesn't seemed to bond as well.
