Photography Workshop

It was a beautiful morning when I pulled into the campsite on the Lower Owens at 5:40 AM. Sadly most of the participants were unable to attend, but Allen Raider and I showed up. We went downriver and set up on a pool that Graham had scouted. Craig and Casey were there too.



Being the fishing bums were are, and since the Owens was so high, we headed up the hill to McGee Creek.







Thanks Graham and Craig! I enjoyed learning a bit of your photography philosphy, and hope to keep improving on my picture taking skills. It was fun!

P.S. the hike back to 395 from Crowley, into the howling wind, was like a death march!

Great looking water Bill. Looks like you had a great time with Craig and Graham. I'm sorry I couldn't make it either. I hurt my back a week and a half ago and it still isn't back to normal. I'd hoped, even Friday morning, I'd feel better but by the end of the day I still didn't feel good enough to spend the weekend walking though the brush. I figured I'd need the weekend to get ready for work again.

Hey Bill, I'm gald you had a good weekend! The photography workshop seemed more like working to get onto fish, and it was challenging, but I'm pretty sure we all had a great time. We'll have to have a meet up again, soon...

I really won't have time to go through my photos until tonight, just started downloading them, and this one kind of jummped out at me...

Craig, your sunset video is awesome, and it wasn't even a spectacular sunset, but your motion vidoe makes it look great.

I'm wondering, do you think this fish is a hybrid? It sure is pretty...

Looks like a very pretty rainbow to me. I'd have a tough time calling any fish a golden (even hybrid) that has a white belly. (Though some of the SoCal Rainbows get somewhat golden on their bellies)

What a great weekend!!! It is always nice to hang with my good friend KC and also meet a bunch of new friends. We all had a great time, fishing was spotty at times, but the incredible scenery made up for anything missing from not catching lots fishes. Graham put on a really informative workshop in a very informal setting. Really, if you listened, the whole weekend was filled with information about photography. How to take better pictures was the topic for the weekend. McGee Creek didn't have many fishes yet, but the scenery was spectacular, well worth the hike. Maybe not all the way to the lake,(Bill) but certainly worth the effort I had into it. Sunday, I fished the LowO. No one wanted to fish it with me. Something about raging waters. I decided to go it alone. There are lots fishies there, most of them good buddies of mine I haven't seen in a while. I decided to reaquaint myself with them. So, off I went, planning to use all my newfound photographic skill. So what you will see in my post is the way I would normally take my pictures first. Then, I will show the same fish using the methods I learned from Graham this weekend. My stuff won't look close to Craig and Grahams, but they certainly are an improvement from what I'm used to.


My first hook up was a double!!! This was a hint of what was to come.


I finally started understanding what I was doing wrong!

Nice, Allen! Good pics! It was great to hang out with you guys on Saturday. For the record, you guys made the right choice. After walking down to the lake I came across two guys who were fishing, and had not got a hit all day. The hike out was brutal, but spectaculary beautiful. Let's go fishing again!

Looks like a great time guys. I went skiing this weekend which I hadn't gotten to do yet this year, but it looks like it would have been a darned good weekend to fish instead! You guys got some nice pics.

Graham, Thanks for the nice comments!! My favorite is the last one. I used a couple of your bits of wisdom to completely change an ordinary picture into on of the best underwater shots I have. You know, I agree, Trout don't live in ugly places and I don't think I've ever seen an ugly trout!! Later, Raider
