Here's an interesting weather & wind report site that I use. Click the area on the map, then click one of the small boxes in the pop up window. I like the 2 "tabular" charts to see the wind, and temps.

I'm moving to the least windy spot in America. I don't know where that is now, but it ain't here. I've had my fill of windy fishing days.

FWIW, I was under the influence of prescription drugs. Prepping for a rough day on the water, I took some scopace(seasick med). After writing the post I went back to bed, and just now woke up. That scopace rocks!!

No wind problem for us today,Saturday. But the stream I fished was well protected with all kinds of brush and trees. Besides if you can't cast in the wind you should give up Flyfishing!

I have a lot of cdec links bookmarked, but the one above is new to me. Thanks! I do use the Wind Finder site for SL and the Delta. Like any "forecast" site, it can be way off. Sat., my local 'forecast" was for 7 mph winds, with gusts up to 12. While reading that, the current conditions said 16 mph. A 10 mph difference can be huge, when fly fishing.

A followup to the weekend. After waking from the haze of Scopace, I drove out to check a carp pond, then up to a local lake I planned to fish, then canceled on. It was calm! Not dead flat calm, but just a ripple on the water, with glassy areas along the shore. DOH! Whatever the forecast is for Sunday, I was going fishing. And I did. Breezy all morning, with a slight chop on the water. Caught a handful of very small, to medium, LMB. It's a large lake, that I need to relearn. Haven't fished it in 20(?) years.

Like you said, many of the forecast sites (like Windfinder) aren't real reliable for accurate MPH predictions. However, if you use the data for only checking trends (ie, is the wind increasing or decreasing), like what day this week is going to have the best wind conditions, it is invaluable data, and has never let me down. But then again, I'm retired, and have ultimate schedule flexibility, so I can pick and choose the best days (unlike you working stiffs!).

As an example, yesterday I went shad fishing, and Windfinder showed high winds in the morning, with the wind decreasing steadily throughout the day. So we got a late start and fished until dark, and sure enough it was correct. The early afternoon fishing was tough, with 15-25 winds, but by nightfall the wind died enough to be very fishable and I scored another 30 fish day! I was parked on the honey hole and kept debating about moving to another spot that had the wind blowing in the right direction, but we toughed it out and didn't move, which was a good thing because a bunch of other people were eyeing the honey hole throughout the day, but we had it covered!!! So Windfinder saved the day because I knew what the wind was going to do, even if the MPH weren't accurate (WF said only 12-15 MPH).
