Rainy Lake!

Postby Sheriff Joe » June 2nd, 2010, 9:25 pm

Hey Guys and Gals,

I'm headed up to Rainy Lake (Minnesota/Ontario border) next week with my father-in-law for his annual bass trip. It'll be my first time fishing that area (well, since the summer of 2002 at Lake Vermillion). It seems like we'll be mostly chasing smallmouth, both on the fly and with conventional gear, with some walleye and pike mixed in. We have boats, remote-crossing permits (meaning we can fish in both the US and Canada), and an entire week to play with.

I'd really like to tangle with a pike or two on fly gear, and I was wondering if anybody has any advice/experience with this sort of thing (JGray, I'm looking at you, buddy!). Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe

Joe,

I've never fished for them but I've seen a book or two on them. You can at least browse portions of the books here at Google Books (search for "pike on the fly" for a few more options. If you haven't used it before, anything that says "Limited Preview" lets you read at least some of it to determine if you want to buy it):
