Hi from Lancaster

Postby kg6bws » June 17th, 2010, 7:34 am

Couldnt find an "intro" forum, so figured Id start here with a quick introduction and hello to everyone.

My name is Justin, live in Lancaster, CA. Relatively new to fly fishing, mostly trolling around lakes in a float tube or kayak pulling streamers, but Ive been trying to learn more about fishing my favorite waters, small streams. Usually fish creeks and rivers with salmon eggs or spinners on an ultralight spinning rig, but recently found (successuly I might add with a nice fat 14" rainbow) the joys of nymphing on small creeks. Although I havent managed to hook anything yet, I was getting hit on a small (18 I think it was) mayfly, and WOW what an amazing feeling!!! Getting hit on the dry fly is just awesome!!!

Joined up here looking to learn some things and improve my flyfishing skills and it looks like theres a lot of really good info on here. Im also learning to improve my tying skills. The only flys ive tried were olive and black wooly buggers.

If anyone sees this truck around

or sees it set up at camp

stop by and say HI.

Since it looks like Im not working this weekend, probably going to head up and fish Bishop Creek this saturday.

Welcome. You did miss the "members Bio" thread, in this "general" section of the forum. Its stickied at the top.... but no worries, this works just fine.

Welcome to the site. Nice camp setup. Def. one of the more luxurious accommodations of the guys here. Myself included.

Cheers,

Ray

Welcome aboard. That 4X4 Hilton you have will definitely make life easy when you start getting into the hard to reach areas.

Coming from the same background you are coming from, there's nothing quite as perfect as bringing a fish to hand on the fly. It will make all of your past endeavors seem trivial in comparison. It's not an elitist thing...... It's just taking the time to respect nature and making the effort to be completely in the moment. And, man, is it addictive!

THanks for the warm welcome everybody.

Yeah the rig definately gets some looks. What you cant see in these pics is the snorkel running along the passenger side fender or the axe and shovel mounted to the passenger side rear fender. I tend to spend alot of time in out of the way places, where it pays to be prepared. Since I spend so much of my time by myself, I go even MORE prepared. And no its not a slide out cooler, its a slide out 12v refrigerator. :D Since Im single and dont have kids, I dont really need the rear seat for passengers, so the fridge occupies the driver side and an old filing cabinet is used for storage on the passenger side. Works quite nicely actually. The tent is amazing!!! Easy to set up, can be ready for bed in under 5 minutes if I really want to and only slightly more difficult to fold up. I HIGHLY reccomend them!!!

Yes Justin, I get called Jason all the * time!!!! LOL!!! Guys I work with right now, have for about 2 1/2 months or so, half of them are still calling me jason. Hehehe, I finally gave up correcting them. :D
