Sierra Snow

I flew home from Portland yesterday afternoon. We flew right over Lake Tahoe and the western Sierra foothills. Nice view of Half Dome from the plane. Lots of snow left in the Sierras, from south of Tahoe to Sequoia - looks like runoff conditions will continue for a while. You could easily pick out all the waterfalls in Yosemite with the high flows. Lots of high country lakes were still frozen over. Would have liked to get a pic but as you know you aren't supposed to turn your phone on.

We go that same route when I fly back from Reno to LAX. It's an amazing view. I have climbed lots of those valley walls, and hiked most of the backcountry around Yosemite. To see it some clearly from above gives me a whole new perspective. The Valley is one of my favorite places on earth!

Yeah, you would have crashed the plane then had to resort to cannibalism to survive like those South American rugby players who crashed in the Andes years ago.

Must have been a cool view. I bought a coffee table book many years ago that is all aerial shots of Yosemite, very cool book, it's probably still for sale. I was going to bring some family members who were visiting up to Tuolumne a week or two ago when they were visiting and the road had just opened, but then I heard that it was all snow and rushing water so we skipped it. Good time to see the waterfalls in the valley though, I'll bet.

Catch one for me will ya. I can now bend my knee a whopping 20 to 25 degrees before it comes to a stop and hurts.
I really want to get a line wet!!!!

Thanks for the report. The YNP falls are going off. Seeing YNP from the air is a treat; even at a distance. I'll be there this next weekend.Will post report.

I think it will be a short, but epic high country fishing season. I fly the Reno to Vegas route a lot and only get to see the sierras from a distance. Still beautiful, though, and great views of the Owens Valley, Mono and Bridgeport area.
