A place to sleep near Bridgeport?

Postby anacrime » June 25th, 2010, 8:53 am

Free campground, dirt road turn off, etc, anywhere. I figure I can find something but maybe one of you kind folks has an idea.

1st dirt turn-off after the dam is my favorite....it is posted "no camping" but never been harassed. It's a half decent fishing hole as well ;)

Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

We camp both on the river below the bridge, or Honeymoon Flats below Twin Lakes.

Take the dirt road after going over the bridge that crosses over Robinson Creek at Doc and Al's. Go up the road several miles and you have free camping in turnouts along Buckeye Creek.

Don't be a cheapsake, book a room at the lodge. Downstream camping from dam is illegal anyway and hey, anyone who can go and stay for months in New Z can afford it! :o   Catch a bunch. 09er

Student income dude!

I'm super poor, guy. I spent around $1700 for 6 months of roaming around New Zealand. And that includes $500 for a car.

Technically I could afford motels if I wanted, but that's not really my style. That money goes toward beer and flies, man.

Tons of places to camp up there. The spot Rob mentioned is pretty good too. We camp above the turnoff at Honeymoon flats a lot. When are you going?

This guy has his priorities straight!!

Illegal below the dam? I'm not sure, never heard that. Not saying it isn't, but if it is it isn't enforced. Plenty of places along the East Walker. Try the dirt trail on the south side of the river. A few hidden spots back there. Might have to fight off the mosquitoes, though.

Thanks for all the suggestions and PMs, fellas. I ended up finding a couple random places to crash without issue. I slept one night in front of the gates of the Hot Creek Hatchery expecting to get a wake up call at dawn. They opened the gates without disrupting my slumber....

Not impressed. Worked my butt off to get into fish. No one was catching anything of size. The 14-15 inchers did fight quite well, though.

I don't think I'll be fishing these Blue River type rivers anymore. It was boring fishing.
