I guess Off-Topic is as good a place to post an off-shore report?
My son and I had planned on joining a friend to go 'running & gunning' for tuna in Mexico waters, but the albacore were still staying just a bit too far south. So, we made way for the backside of Catalina. After spending the night on the water and getting some of the best sleep ever, Kyle and I woke up to screaming reels. About 10 minutes later, we had some nice 40# plus white sea bass on the deck. Kyle picked off two more for his limit (and on the inaugural trip for his new rod & reel), while I was done for the day. I still hold the edge on the fly, but that kid out fishes me every time we head off-shore. We released several others, including a 5' leopard shark.
We dropped off one of the fish at Fire Station 1 in the city I work in so those guys could fillet it out for the other engine squads, gave my buddy the largest, and kept two for the fish freezer. Guess what we are grilling tonite? There is nothing quite so good as WSB.
Retrospectively, I wish I would have brought along my 5wt. The perch and mack's swimming around the boat were all in the 1-2# range. They were chasing hooks, weights, and pretty much anything that hit the water. I could have done that all day and been content.
