Still no Baby

Postby rayfound » July 14th, 2010, 11:01 am

So, the baby daughter I was worried about showing up during GTW opener (and hence I couldn't go), still hasn't made an appearance. We're 5 days past due today, and we have 5 more days before we're scheduled for an induction (Our choice, Doctor would be inducing today if he had his way).

Every ring of my cell-phone is nerve-racking, and I can't stop thinking about dropping everything to rush home to my wife, and head to the hospital when she's ready. I see my wife's face on the caller ID and can't help but think "Is this the one?!?!"

For you guys who've been through it: How do you stand the anticipation??

I'm excited to meet her, scared of the responsibility, and every once in a while I notice that I am REALLY tense... and I don't know why. Nothing is really troubling me.

I'm certainly hoping I'm allowed a mental health day up in the local mountains... you guys with the killer reports are showing me I'm missing out on the best season in memory.
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

It is a form of torture. In 20-25 years from now you will be able to laugh about it. Seriously, in no time they'll be a grown up with kids of there own. Mine are 29 and 27 now, where did the time go? Enjoy them as much as you can. The fishing part? Your going to find out how understanding your spouse is.

Lemme' see here Ray,

When my son, Michael was still in the oven, I WENT DOVE HUNTING, but called in from a pay phone every hour, from someplace along Hwy. 138...and 210th st.

On the last call, at 5:00PM, Jean told me her water had broken. I made it back to Northridge in 40 minutes and took her directly to the hospital...then, waited through 16 hours of labor...

It ALL works out...

Ray, Congrats on the daughter. I remember when my now 13 year old kid was born. I had fallen asleep in the recliner the night before only to have the now ex girlfriend wake me up at 4am. She tells me her water broke. I tell her to relax and take it easy, we have plenty of time to get to the hospital. I shower and get the suitcase of stuff to take. We make it to the hopsital by around 7 am. The nurse screams at me telling me that we should have rushed in as soon as the water broke. I could have went fishing that day since the baby finally popped out at 11 * PM that night.. Nothing like waiting for 18 hours of labor... Just glad I wasnt the one in labor. She wound up getting some meds after about 4 hours of labor.

we were a week overdue as well.... I've got nothing for you but all of it will disapear as soon as you need to spring into action.... then you gotta wait for what seems like forever in the delivery room. :D

As for fishing I was just like you are wanting some time... then the baby came and I didnt want to leave her. So it will all work out. As a side note now that I am getting back into fishing I really do value that time a lot more and I think that makes it better for all parties involved.

Good Luck

It will be the best season in memory. You are catching a trophy that you won't want to throw back ;) .

Then it will be diapers, sleepless nights, teething, the terrible twos, during the teenage years her brains will leave for several years. To top it all off, * boys will start showing up, off to college and then more than likely she'll move back home.

All said.....worth every minute.

Congrats Ray,

Its a amazing experience. I read a lot during the anticipated coming of the my new boy. couldn't fish the 2 weeks prior to was worried I would be out and would miss the birth and she was overdue as well. its going to put in motion changes in your whole life in a great way. One day your out running around doing errands and such and the next day your whole world stops and focuses on that one beautiful child and when you do go out and about always in the back of your mind you'll be wondering whats the little one doing and if they need pampers etc... :D :D :D Makes you think about your father and what he did back in the day during the time before you were born. My advice would be to really take in the moment when it happens and let your wife know she has done something pretty extraordinary have to give her the due they go through so much both of you do. Some men don't cry and thats fine but have witnessed it a couple times now and all the wait, worry, and doing the right things pay off with a little bundle of joy and when the moment arrives those tears of joy come and Its a beautiful thing. Now having little ones running around my house just to hear them laugh and play makes life even more awesome. I have 3 girls now and 1 boy so feel pretty blessed . So congrats again Ray on being a father and embrace the opportunity to spoil your little girl.

Daughters require a lot of patience, and she is teaching you that right off the bat. Dads and daughters have special relationships, and I am sure yours will be no different. Take deep breaths, don't freak out, and let us know when she arrives. God bless!

She'll be here soon enough....well maybe not soon enough for your wife. BTW, get used to the tense stuff. It's just part of being a parent. ;) Personally, I'd just forget about fishing for the next 5 years or so. :o ;) ;)

I never experienced the anticipation part.. my daughter (3 mos.) decided to make her arrival a month early and that was a shocker to me. I guess that was the start of the "nothing goes as planned" phase in life. My only advice would be to always pretend you have'nt a clue what to do with a * diaper....just kind of stand there & stare for a while with a goofy look on your face. Works every time, any woman in sight will quickly take over.

I hope you get more fishing in than I have in the last few months, my fishing ticker is on a stopwatch, not a calender.

Here's to a healthy and happy delivery and recovery for baby & mom.

Ray,

If you weren’t worried about things then I would say that’s a problem. It’s normal to be anxious and worried.

And the worrying continues for a long time (at least for me it does). It’s a part of being a good parent.

Just enjoy the day when it comes and then take each day afterward one by one. It can be hard at times, especially in those early stages, but the moments of joy outnumber the not-so-joyous moments by far.

And don’t worry about the fishing, you can go fishing when you get older. Just squeeze in the trips when you can.

I miss a lot of trips with all the fellas, but I also get a lot of joy out of my son’s Little League games and my daughter’s softball games, and all the other functions that occupy a lot of my weekends. But it’s all good. I would rather miss a fishing trip than miss a home run, or a championship game, or the church play, etc….

Take it all in stride, and teach her right, and you will be amazed at what she can do.

Example: :D :D :D

Sounds like she's faking it to cover up her new found hobby of donut binging.

The anticipation and agnst are just a means of preparing you for your future as a dad. With every first they have, youi'll feel your heart in your throat. That's the magical part of of absolutley caring for someone above and beyond yourself.

You will do great and soon enough you'll be back on the water.

Ray you sure are in for a ride. Just remember your little girl will come when she is ready. Then your going to melt when you hold her for the first time.
Enjoy
