Still no Baby

For topics that don't seem to have a home elsewhere.

A couple anecdotes.

When my wife was pregnant with our first, my partner at work who had two kids, told me something along these lines: "Right now you think you know how much you are capable of loving somone, right? Bro, you have NO IDEA."

He was right. My God, was he right.

A minute after she was born, I was leaning over my wife and I looked over at her in the warmer across the room and she locked eyes with me and held me there. And, I swear, something supernatural happened. That moment, I fell incurably in love. The nursing student who assisted had been watching. I could see him peripherally, looking back and forth at me and then her. And he simply said, "Wow." My unspoken response: "Exactly." I can and always will be able to close my eyes and relive this.

Ray, you're in for some profound stuff. And you can only prepare so much. I'd say just trust your instincts and love your wife through it. Your heart will take over and, once you see that little girl, it will quadruple in size and strength. Soak it all up.

Congratulations, bro.

It will be worth the wait, trust me, it's worth the wait. Hang in there and try to relax and get as much sleep as possible before the blessed day.

Like all parents, we were anxiously waiting as the due date approached for our first, and then passed. However, I had a little bit of an extra incentive for the birth to happen on time because it was the end of the year, and if he was born before the end of the year we would get to claim him on our income tax as a deduction for the whole year. That sounds kind of cold writing it out, but it was really just one of those things we discussed as we talked for hours on end about all of the upcoming ways our life was going to change. Plus we were pretty poor at that time, so getting a little 'somethin somethin' extra from Uncle Sam to help pay for diapers was important. In any case, on Dec. 28th we became the proud parents of a little boy - and it was as wonderful (and still is) as everyone has mentioned. Plus we got the extra bonus. One of my nicknames for him during those first few months was "tax break." :D However, one of my other nicknames for him was "poopie" so be prepared my friend. Those kids are like * machines when they are young, and while Rubikinda's advice is spot on, sometimes there isn't anyone around to clean up that mess but you! It's funny how when it is your own kid that it really doesn't matter though.
Nature always wins.

Papa, I know exactly how you feel. Our second (and last) daughter was born at ~10AM on Dec 31st.

We should start a pool for when the labor starts and Ray can supply a box full of flies to the winner. Sounds good to me. ;)

I'll go with Saturday July 17th 9:07 am.

Ray, I would say I meant next Fri., but that would just be too mean. First babies have a tendency to wait until after the due date. Our first was a week late dead on. Might of been why he was 9.6 (sister was 10.5). Mama should get busy anytime now.

Remember anything she says during labor can't be used against her at a later date ;).
