When my daughter was born, I was on duty at the fire station. I was on a grass fire in Fontana when the call came from dispatch for me to return to the station. Since both our kids were born in San Clemente Hospital, I hopped in my 1964 Volkswagen beetle and roared down the freeway still wearing my soot covered dungerees. I was pulled over in El Toro and when the motor cop walked up to the car, he asked," Going to a fire?". To which I replied, "No, my wife is having our second baby!" He just laughed and told me to keep it under the speed of sound and walked away. When I got to the Delivery ward, the nurses took one look at me and marched me into the Intern's shower room and put me in clean scrubs.
My "babies" are 36 and 34 now. My world still revolves around them even as they have their own lives and children of their own. Yours will too.
Wait till you have grandkids!!
"Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learnt something from yesterday."
