Broken Tip

Postby Hatch71 » August 3rd, 2010, 10:47 am

Ok..... Panic and bad timing is setting in.....

I took our 3 boys to our local pond last night...... My oldest hooks a Blue Gil on his first cast (with a BWO) and while he's stripping it in and Dad is being proud my other two boys (6 & 3) are messing around with Dad's prized Rod (Sage 6wt). I had it leaning on the fence so no one steps on it. :( so I look at my oldest he is doing good and I figure ok he's good. Come here Boys. So cast out the Sage for my 6 year old. Then I turn my attention back on the oldest, then a short moment later I turn around and the the other two are rolling around on the ground, I grab the rod back and............

You guessed it..... The Tip lost that round!!!! It broke about 1" down...... I was sweating trying not to yell and scream or blame anyone........... Ok but I might have turned all shades of red :fireangry: .... My six year old looked up with big tearing eyes and said Dad I was trying to stop him so nothing happened to it.... How could I get mad at that...... :comfort: They caught four Gils last night after the incident.... So all was not lost :)

Fast forward to today. I just got off the phone with Sage and man now I know why I bought a Sage rod. They said they would try to have it back before my trip to the Bitterroot in two weeks...... Just wanted to share how much fun it is to fly fish with a wrestling team.... LOL

I will keep you all posted ......

Me thinks that Sage would have become a switch rod PDQ. Good for you and it's always good to hear about quality customer service on these rod repairs. :D
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

I too broke a rod tip last weekend. Wish I had someone to blame, other than myself. ;)

I was in a similar situation a while back. Heading out of State in a couple weeks, on a fishing trip. Snapped the tip off on a local trip. I called Sage and told them of the situation, and I had my rod back in time for the trip. I did opt to pay extra for overnight delivery.

Man, I hate when you hear that SNAP! Like fingers on a chalk board. Glad the boys got some fish after the mis-hap, good to leave happy.

Nice work on finding the silver lining. Of course the platinum lining to that story is your upcoming trip to the Bitterroot.

Gabe...

You know the spot I'm talking about right next to the beach club near the fence line. The blue gills have been feeding right there early evening. Then the best for the kids is when the bass take the blue gill you have hooked lol!!! Chris

Fish on you bro you are so right about the chalkboard sound... So glad I missed hearing it ;) this time.....

Darrin & Brians I will keep you posted about how it goes with the Rod. Brians I couldn't remember who had posted about the quick turn around but now I remember reading your post.
