I had the non Gortex Cabelas jacket. It's probably changed since then, but....... After light use for a couple years it did not repel water well. I washed it and re-treated it with a waterproofing spray. It worked ok for a couple wet sessions, but it started getting saturated again. Not actually leaking water inside, but the outer shell held water and made the jacket heavy. The last straw was a steelhead trip. It rained off and on the whole trip, but the last day it rained hard. The jacket felt like I was wrapped in a wet blanket, and I was damp inside. Miserable. When I got home, I order a Simms, G3 Guide jacket. It's a little on the stiff side, but comfortable. It has tons of storage.....and I use every bit of it.
Expensive, but worth it(IMHO).
I guess what I'm saying is, don't scrimp if you're going to be using it regularly.
